The Original Shrek

First of all, did you know the Shrek films are based on a children’s book by William Steig called, how did you guess, Shrek! The book was writen in 1990 and the films contain many of the storylines of the story, however many elements were adapted for the Shrek movies. The heart of the book, like the films, is the importance we place on outside appearences rather than the person, or ogre, inside. The story follows Shrek as he is kiccked out of his house, meets a profesising with and eventually end up marrying a princess ogre that is uglier than him.

The Original Shrek movie

The original Shrek movie opened in 2001, with Shrek tickets going on sale on May 16. It had a production budget of $60 million and runs for an hour and a half. The film grossed a total of $484,409,218 Worldwide. The film starred the voices of Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy and was directed by Andrew Adamson. Ted Elliot and Terro Rossio were the writers, while the producer was Jeffrey Katzenberg. Music was composed by Harry Gregson and Williams John Powell.

Shrek 2 information

Shrek 2 was released in 2004, had a production budget of $150 million and had a worldwide domestic gross of $919,838,758. It once again starred Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas joined the ensemble for the second run. Andrew Anderson once again directed, same with producer Jeffrey Katzenberg and composers Harry Gregson and Williams John Powell.

Shrek the Third

Shrek the Third opened in May of 2007, ran one hour and 32 minutes and had a production budget of $160 million. It grossed a total of $789,957,081 million worldwide. Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas once again starred, joined by John Cleese, Eric Idle, Justin Timberlake, Cheri Oreri and Regis Philbin.

Shrek Goes Fourth

The fourth installment of the SHrek franchise, Shrek Goes Fourth, is scheduled to be released in May of 2010. Most of the primary cast has chosen to reprieve their roles, with only John Cleese and Eric Idle not coming back. Rumors are that the story will be a prequel that explains how Shrek ened up in the swamp in the first place. Dreamworks has also said the films will be released in both 2d and 3d. You can bet that Shrek tickets for the ogre’s fourth film will be a hot item.
