Everyone’s favorite green ogre is leaping of the film screen and onto a Broadway stage to star in what could be one of the most anticipated musicals in recent memory. That’s right, Shrek the Musical has been announced and it has children and adults eagerly awaiting one of the biggest shows to hit Broadway in years. It’s the perfect event for the holiday season, so buy Shrek tickets today to see the beloved classic spring to life right before your eyes.

The Shrek Musical is scheduled to start on Broadway in December, with preview screenings starting on November 8. Shrek tickets are on sale already. The spectacular opening night will welcome lucky Shrek ticket holders on December 14. The musical did a trial run in Seattle this summer and met with rave reviews, with one (young) critic calling it “The Best Show Ever!”

Of course, the show once again takes place in “Far, Far Away,’ the magical land of talking donkeys, fire-breathing dragons and inhabited by characters out of other fairy tale, including a hilarious Pinocchio. The Shrek Musical Cast and Crew

It takes actor Brian D’Arcy James more than two hours to put on all the make-up and prosthetics that transform him into Shrek. The prosthetics allow James control over all of Shrek’s facial expressions, making for an unforgettable hero. James is a Tony Award nominee. The hilarious Donkey is played by Daniel Breaker, recently nominated for a Tony Award for his work on “Passing Strange.” The strong-willed Fiona is played with gusto by Tony-Award-Winner Sutton Foster. Foster’s previous work includes “Thoroughly Modern Millie” and “Young Frankenstein.” There are other big names in the Shrek Musical that are sure to entertain. You don’t want to miss John Tartaglia as Pinocchio, a scene stealer in the Shrek Musical.

Tony Award nominee Christopher Sieber is the diminutive Lord Farquaad. before coming to the SHrek Musical, Sieber starred in “Monty Python’s Spamalot.” His adaptation of the antagonist is nothing short of extraordinary, and anyone with Shrek tickets is guaranteed to be laughing out loud at his hilarious adaptation of the character. You do not want to miss his introductory number “Things Are Looking Up in Duloc,” the first look we get at the king. Sieber performs the whole number on his knees, to hilarious effects.

Shrek and Fiona’s duo ballad “I Got You Beat” is another great number that will capture the imagination of children and adults alike who are lucky enough to have Shrek Musical tickets. The Shrek Musical Director is Jason Moore, a Tony Award nominee, who directed the Tony winner for Best Musical “Avenue Q” as well as “Jerry Springer – The Opera in Concert” before coming on board the Shrek Musical.

Scenic designer Tim Hatley has created a wonderful world for the Shrek Musical that bring to life the swamps and forest of the film. There are all kinds of creatures that make appearances during the show, including various puppets of all sizes. Hatley won a Tony Award and has worked on movies and theater, including “Monty Python’s Spamalot.” His sets are breathtaking. Olivier Award-Winner Jeanine Tesori provides the music, with David Lindsay-Abaire writing the lyrics. Tim Weil, who worked on Rent, is the Shrek Musical music director. Choreographer Josh Prince is in charge of making the musical numbers bounce of the stage. The Shrek Musical takes place at the Broadway Theater. It runs approximately two and half hours.

The Shrek franchise all started with New Yorker cartoonist William Steig’s children’s book of the same name.
